• Where is the organization based?
The organization GETTHRU is based in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, a twin island nation in the Caribbean. And it is a registered non-profit in this country.
• How can I get my work added to the collection?
If you are a contemporary artist simply summit your work to us via our site. A Jpeg file format is preferred for stills. You must summit a biography, CV, Artist Statement and most importantly, showing samples of your art. We acquire works of all medium and sizes. After we have received your submission we will respond to you within a week.
• What is contemporary art?
Contemporary art is art created in this present time period and dates back to the mid-1960s. It is art with a more socially conscious agenda and dates back to the post-modern era of art, which is a successor of the modern art era. In the past 30 years contemporary artists have discussed issues such as globalization, AIDS awareness, multiculturalism and feminism. Thru Contemporary Arts has defined it as art that pushes the envelope and questions the essence of what is art. Contemporary artists often work in "movements" which are difficult to classify as they are often emerging.
• Is there a size limitation to the pieces of work submitted?
No, there is no size limitation to the piece of art. However because the works are transported around the world to various galleries, museums and art spaces it is always best if the work can be rolled or somehow reduced to a manageable shipping size.
• Where is the collection shown?
The collection is shown around the world but our focus is on developing countries. It is shown in art galleries, museums and public art spaces. No two exhibitions are alike, different works are selected by our team to insure a unique experience.
• What is the relation between GETTHRU and Thru Contemporary Arts?
GETTHRU is the registered nonprofit arts organization and Thru Contemporary Arts is a project of GETTHRU.
• How can I become a GETTHRU volunteer?
We always need help and volunteers play an important role in our organization. If you wish to volunteer go to our webpage and learn more about what is needed or just send us and email letting us know how you would like to help firstname.lastname@example.org
• What does it cost to visit the exhibitions?
Exhibitions are generally free and open to the public.
• Are the art works on show in the exhibition for sale?
Works acquired to the permanent public collection are not for sale, however if you are interested in an artist within the collection you may contact them or their gallery directly to arrange to purchase other works of art.
• Does GETTHRU run any art workshops?
We aim to educate about the arts, and lectures and workshop are often a part of our exhibitions.
• Are children allowed at the exhibition?
Generally yes. The rules of the venue are really out of our control but generally all ages are welcome to attend an art exhibition.
• Is it ok to take photos at the exhibitions?
Based on where the exhibition is taking place this may vary. Generally it is ok to take photos of the collection but this request must approved but the host gallery.
• How can I keep up to date with your exhibitions?
To keep up to date, send us your email email@example.com so we may add you to our email list. You may also checkout our exhibition page as we constantly update this page and post events months in advance.
• GETTHRU is a non-profit organization, how can I support their projects?
Donating is the easiest way to support us. If you are with an organization or company you may choose to partner with us or sponsor an event, workshop or exhibition.
• How does GETTHRU get funding?
We are funded by grants, donations, and support from people like you.
• Who are the Contemporary artists currently featured in the collection?
Currently the artists in the collection vary from senior artists to mid-career and emerging artists. The mediums also vary from mixed medium to photographs, painting and embroidery. The works are from various regions of the world including the Americas, Europe, Middle East and the Caribbean.
• How long does each exhibition last?
Depending on the venue the exhibition can run up to 2 months however we typically run an exhibition for 2 weeks.
• We are a community group, when you are exhibiting in our area, how can we get involved?
